Architecture and Landscape Before and After Roman Imperial Conquest in Britain

This paper was assigned as the first long-form assignment meant to assess students understanding of the classes content and themes, I was required to write an at least 2000-word essay on an individually chosen topic to reflect an aspect of the Roman presence in Britain which we had previously studied in class. I chose to write about how the relationship between man-made architecture and the landscape in Britain was altered by the Roman occupation of Britain by using examples of architecture from Iron Age Britain contrasted with Roman British architecture.

Because of my studies as a Classics major, I was able to utilize archeological research in this assignment. Because I had an advanced understanding of this data, I was able to utilize the examples present within my argument to the best of my ability to analyze the broader socioeconomic which these examples represented.

I think this item was successful as a demonstration of my understanding of the socioeconomic state of Britain before and after Roman Imperial conquest, however if I could do it again, I think my argument could have been strengthened better if I linked my examples together more thoroughly. My analysis could have been stronger if I made the connections between my examples more explicit and analyzed them together.
